Committed to exceptional craftsmanship
Adam Stone is a custom furniture maker and woodworking teacher whose love of woodworking blossomed at his grandfather’s knee. Born and raised in Perthshire, an early passion for woodturning grew into a desire to create beautiful and useful objects. After graduating from the University of Dundee with degrees in his other passion, the study of human biology, Adam attended the Chippendale International School of Furniture in Gifford, studying woodworking, speciality joinery, and furniture making. Adam joined the staff as a full-time instructor specializing in woodturning. He taught at the furniture school for four years before returning home to Perthshire to open Adam Stone Furniture near Kettins, where he designs and makes bespoke hardwood furniture on a commission basis and teaches woodworking courses.
Adam still maintains firm ties to the Chippendale School and is a yearly guest tutor to teach those areas in which he specialises
Originally from America, Vanessa moved from Seattle to Scotland to study the art of furniture-making, graduating from the Chippendale International School of furniture in 2018. Since then, she has taught woodworking courses for women in Seattle and has been making bespoke furniture on a commission basis. She brings a decade and a half of marketing and design knowledge, a love for handmade wooden furniture and a passion for imparting skills and confidence to women.
Elara specialises in timekeeping, making sure that appropriate snack and meal times are observed, as well as quality control. She has already declared Ash to be our highest quality chewing timber. As an employer committed to helping women get ahead in our industry, we are delighted to add another lady to the team on a permanent basis.
The Adam Stone Furniture workshop has space for up to 6 students for woodworking classes, a fully kitted machine shop, and incredible light in a converted centuries-old barn. Known for its gorgeous trees, Perthshire is a treasure trove of forestry in Scotland. Adam partners with local estates to harvest trees that need to be removed and mill them into timber that he turns into beautiful, bespoke furniture, kitchens, and art objects.
