This course offers a general introduction to woodworking including design, tools, joinery and finishing techniques. We will will teach you the basics you need to make a small project and acquire foundational skills.

This course is designed to teach you the basics of woodturning and help you establish good habits for a strong foundation.

We will cover spindle techniques and turning wood between centres, sharpening, the use of the roughing gouge, spindle gouge, skew chisel and parting tool before moving on to bowl turning with the bowl gouge.

The ancient art of steam bending is an ecological and economical way to make creative and fluid shapes from wood. This class will talk about the theory and practicality of steam bending, including timber selection, forms, jigs, and types of steam boxes. We will experiment with simple and compound bends and twists, different timber species, and dimensional forms. At the end of class, you will take home your own simple steam-bent project.

This course will build on the skills and theory taught in our first-time steam bending course and show you how to create more complex sculptural and functional designs for furniture and decoration. Bring your project plans and come with questions and ideas. We will push the boundaries of your art further and you will learn what you need to complete your design.

Come ready with your intermediate-level project and we will work on it together! In this course, you will learn to make a cutting list, sharpen your tools, cut and mill timber, select and create the right joinery for your project, and finish your piece with the right kind of finish for its use.

This course can be repeated on a customised basis to learn what you need to complete your own designs or further your training in the direction you prefer.
